Shahdag Mountain Resort lies 212 km from Baku in the Qusar (Gusar) district, below Mount Shahdag (4,243 m). You can get there by public bus to Qusar and then a taxi to the resort, by car along the Baku–Quba highway, or by private transfer straight to your hotel door. By road the trip usually takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic, stops and weather.

By bus and taxi

According to the resort’s own travel page, buses leave the second floor of the Baku International Bus Terminal every 30 minutes between 07:00 and 18:00 and go to Qusar central bus station. The published fare is 6.49 AZN. Return buses from Qusar run every 30 minutes from 07:00 to 17:30 for 4 AZN. Fares may change, so check before travel.

From Qusar a taxi up to the resort costs about 10–15 AZN. The resort also recommends “go2Shahdag” Mercedes minibus transfers (+994 10 389 01 38). This is the cheapest option, but with ski bags and children the change in Qusar and the wait for a taxi can take time, and the last return bus leaves Qusar at 17:30.

By car

The usual route is Baku – Quba – Qusar – Shahdag, mostly on the Baku–Quba highway (M1). The highway section is straightforward; the final stretch after Qusar climbs into the mountains. Travel blogs quote about 3.5–4 hours of driving in total.

By private transfer

A transfer is the simplest way if you travel with skis, a family or a group: the driver picks you up in Baku or at the airport, loads the luggage and drops you at your hotel in the resort. There is no change in Qusar and you leave when it suits you rather than when the bus does.

Ski season

Based on recent seasons, skiing at Shahdag runs roughly from December to mid-April. In 2023–24 pricing the resort used an early season (1–20 December), a peak season (21 December – end of February) and a spring season (1 March – 15 April). Exact dates depend on snow, so check the resort’s website for the current season. For 2025–26 Shahdag joined the “Ski Season Without Borders” partner programme with Rosa Khutor, Shymbulak, Oi-Qaragai and Amirsoy.

Winter travel tips

  • Allow extra time in snow, especially on the mountain section after Qusar.
  • Leave Baku early on Friday and holiday weekends, when many people head north.
  • Keep warm layers, water and snacks in the car, not only in the luggage compartment.
  • If you go by bus, plan your return so you reach Qusar well before the last departure at 17:30.
  • Book transfers for the New Year period well in advance.
