Trains in Azerbaijan: routes, timetable and fares

Passenger trains in Azerbaijan are run by Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). They go west to Ganja and Gazakh, to Gabala, to Tbilisi and, from 20.11, again to Sheki and Balakan.
There are no trains to the south, to Quba and Shahdag, to Shamakhi, Mingachevir or Naftalan — there you go by car.
Below is the timetable with fares «from», and what our driver can do at the station.

Questions and answers
Is the train fare different for foreigners?
No. ADY has no separate fare for foreigners: the price depends on the class, the date and the seat, not on citizenship (ADY data as of 04.11.2026).
Can I take the train from Tbilisi to Baku?
Not every foreigner can. As of 04.11.2026 entry to Azerbaijan by land is closed; the Tbilisi → Baku train is open to citizens of Azerbaijan and foreigners with visa-free entry. Citizens of the EU, UK and USA need an e-visa, so this train is not for them.
Is there a train to Lankaran, Quba or Shahdag?
No. There are no passenger trains to the south (Lankaran, Astara, Masalli) or to the north (Quba, Khachmaz, Shahdag). ADY plans to restore them by 2030. Our transfers go there every day.
Can you meet me at the station?
Yes. The driver meets you with a name sign at the carriage or at the station exit and waits if the train is late. From Gabala station the transfer starts at $15 per car.
