Goygol
Lake Goygol — the Blue Lake — lies in Goygol National Park at the foot of Mount Kapaz. It was formed in the 12th century when an earthquake blocked the river with a rockslide, and it is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Caucasus.
The lake is surrounded by forests, and the national park also protects Maral Gol and several smaller mountain lakes. The nearby town of Goygol was founded in 1819 as Helenendorf by German settlers; their old houses, the Lutheran church and the wine-making tradition can still be seen today.
