What to try in Sheki: piti and halva
Sheki piti is a lamb soup with chickpeas, cooked for 8–10 hours in a small clay pot. It is eaten in two steps: first the broth with pieces of bread, then the meat and chickpeas, often with onion and sumac.
Sheki halva is not like halva elsewhere. A thin net of rice-flour pastry (rushta) is filled with spiced hazelnuts, topped with saffron and soaked in syrup.
Also worth trying: giz (lamb dumplings with herbs), dovga, bozbash, meatless dolma and rice with milk.
