Quba

Quba is the main town of northern Azerbaijan, a land of apple orchards, carpets and mountain rivers at the foot of the Greater Caucasus.

Across the river lies the Red Settlement (Qirmizi Qasaba), one of the few all-Jewish towns outside Israel, with its synagogues and old brick houses. In Quba itself see the Juma Mosque, the old bathhouse and the carpet workshops; nearby are the Tengealti canyon and the Afurja waterfall.

From Quba a mountain road leads to Khinalug, one of the highest villages in the Caucasus (about 2,300 m), whose people speak their own unique language. Its cultural landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
