Shamakhi Day Tour
Diri Baba Mausoleum, Juma Mosque, the Astrophysical Observatory and an alpaca farm.
Shamakhi is one of Azerbaijan's ancient capitals, about two hours from Baku, and the first stop on the road to Gabala and Sheki.
See the Juma Mosque, one of the oldest in the Caucasus, the Diri Baba Mausoleum built into the rock, and the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory in the hills.
The drive from Baku takes about two hours on a good highway through the hills. A one-way transfer costs from 150 ₼ per car; our Shamakhi tour includes all the stops and lunch time.
Late spring and early autumn, when the hills are green or golden. September and October are the grape harvest season.
Shamakhi is the heart of Azerbaijani wine-making — several wineries offer tastings. The town is also known for its carpets and the Yeddi Gumbaz mausoleums.
